Sessions last approximately 40 minutes. Suitable for ages 5+, children must be accompanied by an adult.
A dazzling mixture of chamber music, stories and pictures, set in a life-size Victorian paper theatre.
Three of Hans Christian Andersen’s best-loved tales are woven into the story of Andersen’s own extraordinary life, from his childhood home in deepest poverty, through his unshakeable belief that he was destined for greatness, to his passion for paper-snipping and his love of theatre.
The backstage workings of the show - the scene changes, the paper props and figures - are visible to the audience, revealing a curious toy-like world. Bespoke illustrations conjure up stories of emperors, nightingales and swans, through fantastical backdrops and intricate silhouettes. The live score includes music by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Purcell and Ravel.
Whilst there combine your visit with a refreshment stop at the on-site cafe where you will find a selection of hot and cold drinks and freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, pastries and cakes.
